
How do I fix a blank map/screen/app?

Unfortunately, some of our users experience rare issues which causes blank user interfaces. There are a few steps to work through:
Step 1: Check Connection and Force Quit (Web, Android and iOS)
First up, try a few quick things:
- Can you open a web browser and access your favourite websites? If you can, that’s great. If not, or they’re slow then Bushfire.io might take longer than usual to open.
- Try force closing Bushfire.io. Depending on how you access Bushfire.io, your solution will change slightly. If you’re using:
- A web browser, close the tap and navigate back to https://bushfire.io.
- An iPhone/iPad: Force close Bushfire.io.
- Android: Force close Bushfire.io.
Step 2: Reset Chrome (Android and PC)
On Android, we use Chrome to render part of the Bushfire.io app. Sometimes it can become particularly unhappy.
- Open Chrome.
- Navigate to https://bushfire.io
- Tap on the site settings button, immediately to the left of the address URL.
- Select Cookies and Site Data.
- Tap on the rubbish bin/trash can icon and select confirm.
- Navigate to https://bushfire.io again.
If this works, the app will hopefully come back to life on Android.
Step 3: Unload the Service Worker (Android and PC)
We use a special component called a Service Worker which allows our website to function more like an App. However, something can go wrong (like an internet connection dropping out, or something corrupting) when it is being loaded which causes our app to cease functioning. This option will attempt to reset the Service Worker component.
- Navigate to Diagnostics.
- Select Unload Service Worker
- Select Reload.
- Click on the logo at the top of the page to navigate Home.
Step 4: Try a Different Browser or Device
Does Bushfire.io work in another browser either on your PC, Mac or phone? This helps to confirm there are problems isolated to a particular browser or web interface.
- Download and install Firefox, Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your device.
- Navigate to: https://bushfire.io.
- Does it load? If it doesn’t, check you have reliable Internet access. Try another device, make sure your device is up-to-date and web browsers are up to date. We only support devices made in the past 5 years or so. If your device has left support and can’t get new operating system updates (this is particularly important for Apple devices), it’s unlikely we will be able to support your device.
